UP Portal Login – University of Pretoria

The University of Pretoria created the UP portal for students and staff to enable both parties to perform academic tasks from anywhere as long as they have a smartphone or laptop connected to the internet. The online portal does more for students of the institution as it can perform the following tasks; Checking application status, exam results, timetables and school academic calendar, UP course registrations, payment of tuition and acceptance fees etc.

How to Access the UP Portal Login

  1. Visit the login page www1.up.ac.za
  2. Put in your “u” username. For example: username u01234567.
  3. Put in your password and click the “Login” button

Note that the number after the “u” in your username is your EMPLID number on your student ID card. The University of Pretoria uses this EMPLID number (Enterprise-wide Master Personal Identity Descriptor) to identify each person/student across all systems.

Accessing UP Portal Login for New Students

If you are a new student at the University of Pretoria, follow these steps to register a profile on the portal:

  1. Visit the login page www1.up.ac.za
  2. Click the “New User” button
  3. Put in your “u” username. For example: username u01234567.
  4. Put in your National ID number and click the “Proceed” button
  5. Choose a password that meets the minimum validation requirements.
  6. Choose three questions, which are specific to yourself, and for which the answers to those questions will be something you won’t forget.
  7. Provide the answers to those questions and click Save.

These questions are for security purposes, in case you lose your password and you are trying to recover or change it.

How to Recover Forgotten UP Password

  1. Visit the login page www1.up.ac.za
  2. Click the Lost (forgotten)password link at the bottom right
  3. Put in your “u” username and click the “submit” button
  4. Follow the prompts

You may be asked to provide answers to the three security questions you set during your registration. If you still have problems logging into the UP portal, you can log a support call to the portal administration.
