Apply for CACH College and University Referrals 2024

The Central Application Clearing House (CACH) is a free application service offered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). It helps grade 12/matric students by referring them to courses currently available in South African universities and colleges.

According to the service management, students who applied for higher education studies but have not been accepted at any institution at the time, and now qualify when their matric results are released can sign-up on CACH.

This service is now open from the 26th of January 2024, till the 31st of March 2024. CACH works by matching your marks from the matric exams with courses that are still available in South African universities, colleges (Public and Private), and Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) colleges, then, Institutions with open study places, technical training opportunities, or apprenticeship slots make them available to the most suitable applicants on the CACH database.

What CACH Will Do For You

  • Match your profile and study preference with universities, TVET colleges, and learnerships within SETAs (Sector Education and Training Authorities)
  • Record and submit your application to prospective universities and TVET Colleges
  • Where places exist, and you meet the requirements, the prospective institutions will contact you with offers.

Who can Apply for CACH?

These three categories of students can apply for CACH:

  1. Prospective students who were previously rejected by universities and colleges.
  2. Prospective students who have improved their NSC exam results and would like to apply to different institutions.
  3. Matriculants who have not been accepted into a higher education institution

For a student to be eligible to apply for CACH, he/she must meet the following requirements:

  • You must have completed Matric in 2000 or later
  • You must have a National Senior Certificate or Senior Certificate
  • You must be planning to study at a University, University of Technology, TVET college or private college.

How To Apply

If you are interested in applying to CACH, there are three options for you:

  1. You have to contact them through SMS or E-Mail. send your name, surname and ID number to 31629 and you will receive a call in return.
  2. Email your name, surname, cell number and ID number to [email protected] and you will also receive a call in return.
  3. Sign up with CACH with your personal details, including your ID number. You will also be required to state the study choices/programmes you want to apply for.

This service will also be useful for students whose applications have been declined by their institution of choice so they will get their course of choice at another institution.
