Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Late Admission 2024

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is now accepting late applications to Grade 1 and Grade 8 for the 2024 academic year, so parents who were not able to register their children during the previous application window can now do so. The application began on 18th December 2023 and will end on 31st January 2024.

To complete your registration, you will be required to complete a 5-step application process. Note that only schools with available space are open and you can only apply to one school. This article will guide you on; the required documents to apply, and how to register your child in a GDE-approved high school.

How to Apply For GDE Admission 2024

  1. Visit the GDE Application portal and click the“register” button
  2. Read the POPIA Disclaimer, approve it by ticking the checkbox, and click continue
  3. Complete the 5 steps and submit your application

Documents To be Submitted

After or during your registration for a GDE admission, you are going to submit the following documents either on the portal or to the high school you applied for when the school opens in 2024.

  • The parent or legal guardian’s ID document (If they are South African)
  • The birth certificate of the learner
  • Proof of your home or work address
  • Immunization/clinic document which should prove that the child does not have tuberculosis, tetanus, hepatitis B, polio, measles, or diphtheria (if the child is applying as a Grade 1 learner)
  • Most recent report of the child, if the child is currently enrolled in another school.

If you are not a South African (i.e. international student), you are to submit the following documents:

  • The parent or legal guardian’s passport
  • Proof of your home or work address
  • Asylum Seeker or Refugee Permit of the child
  • Current academic report card of the school where the child is currently enrolled (if the child is applying for Grade 8)
