List of DHET-Accredited Journals for 2023

If you are interested in getting the list of all the journals accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), then this article is written for you, cause you will be able to download that list here. Also, if you have a journal that you want to accredit, this article is for you.

Every year, DHET compiles and accredits a list of journals such as ISI journals, International Bibliography of Social Sciences (IBSS) journals, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and South African journals. These Journals have been put into a list.

The following indices are regarded as accredited journals by the DHET. Only journals in the list below receive a subsidy or recognition for written article:

  1. International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS)
  2. Web of Science Journals
  3. List of approved South African journals as maintained by the DHET
  4. The Norwegian List (only level 2)
  5. SciELO SA
  6. Scopus​
  7. DOAJ (Only applies from the submission in the year 2022 and onwards)

Requirements for DHET Journals Accreditation

For your journal to be included in the Approved List of South African Journals, the Department must receive the following information by 15 June. This submission is necessary for the journal to be considered for inclusion, with the effect starting from the following calendar year:

  1. Title, including translations if not published in English;
  2. The ISSN of the journal;
  3. Publisher and the publisher’s address and contact details;
  4. Frequency of publication;
  5. Evidence that the journal has been published uninterrupted for a minimum of three years, as well as the latest three consecutive copies of the journal;
  6. Editorial policy, including evidence of the peer review process;
  7. Editorial Board – the status of the members of the editorial board must be stated together with their institutional affiliations;
  8. In the case of electronic journals, the journal’s internet Uniform Resource Locator (URL); and
  9. Proof of the journal’s library holdings and/or downloads for electronic publications.
