Your application will only be considered for admission to the University if you qualify for a Bachelor’s degree study AND you satisfy the faculty requirements. To qualify for a Bachelor’s pass status, learners are required to take seven subjects, four of which are compulsory (two languages, Life Orientation and either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy) and three of the learner’s own choice from the subjects on offer at the school.
To qualify for degree studies at Rhodes University, learners must pass:
- English language at an achievement rating of 4 (50 – 59%) or above.
- At least four of the seven subjects must be from the list of recommended subjects list set out below and students must have obtained an achievement rating of 4 (50 – 59%) or above.
- Meet Faculty requirements: subject requirements and percentage required.

How to Apply to Rhodes University
- Visit the University application website
- Select the ‘Admission (not yet enrolled at Rhodes)’ option
- Register as a user and log in with your registration details
- All new applications must be accompanied by:
- Certified copy of latest high school report/Grade 12 or N3 certificate
- Certified copies of the ID of the learner
- Certified copies of the ID of the Parent/Guardian
- One ID-size photo of the Learner
- Begin and complete your application
Note that you must pay a non-refundable application Fee of R100 before beginning the application process. All applications are expected to be submitted before September 2025.
Check Application Status
If you want to track or know the status of your application to Rhodes University, you should do that 4-6 weeks after the applications have closed in September. You can track it by logging into your application profile on ross.ru.ac.za. Alternatively, you can keep checking your email cause if you have been granted admission into the institution, you will be sent an official email from the admission office.
