Application Requirements and Documents

  • Valid email address (only one of the following is needed
  • Make sure you meet the study requirements for your study choices.
    • Certified and individually scanned documents if completed Grade 12.
    • Document upload requirements when applying online (not applicable to applicants currently in grade 12 or internal transfer/Senior applicants):
      • All documents must be certified. When uploading documents, ensure that the scanned file is a maximum of 512KB, and that all documents are scanned in any of the following types – tiff, pdf, jpg or gif
      • Each document must be scanned and uploaded as separate attachments
  • Alternatively, documents can be emailed to [email protected] with the provisional reference/student number noted in the subject line of the email.
  • Applicants currently in Grade 12 may be requested to provide certified copies of final Grade 11 results for verification and auditing purposes.

Information for International Students Applying to UJ

  • Submit a completed physical application form with supporting documents together with a non-refundable application fee of R200.00
  • If you choose to apply online, applications are free
  • Supporting documents may be uploaded on the application platform or emailed to [email protected]
  • Final School leaving results when applying with international credentials or currently in Grade 12 (Final Grade 11 results)
  • Valid Passport or Identity Document or Birth Certificate
  • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
    Provide proof of English Proficiency. Where English was not used as a medium of learning and teaching, the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programmes. Alternatively, the candidate may elect to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP). Should you choose to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP), you are required to obtain an overall score of 6.   • In case both first and second choices are unsuccessful, the International Admissions office will offer an international applicant a choice option when meeting the requirements

  2. click on the Admission+aid’ option
  3. Select the ‘Undergraduate’ option in the dropdown menu
  4. Click on ‘New applicant Apply here’
  5. Fill in the required information
  6. Submit the required documents

NB: The application fee is free for students who are citizens of South Africa only, whether applying in person or online.
