University of Pretoria (UP) Online Application 2025

University of Pretoria (UP) will soon begin its online applications for the 2025 academic session, so if you are a grade 12 student looking to get admission into this university, you should start preparing for your application now. The University of Pretoria is a good institution of choice, as it is one of Africa’s top universities and the largest contact university in South Africa. The institution offers courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study.

UP application for 2025 has been confirmed to open on 1 April 2024 and will close on 31 May 2024 for the Faculty of Veterinary Science and 30 June 2024 for all other faculties.

UP Application Fee 2025

All applicants are required to pay an application fee of R115 (Online applicants) or R185 (physical applications) after they receive their student number from UP. This application fee is not refundable under any circumstance. You are to use the student number you receive from the University of Pretoria and the application fee reference number (STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030).

General Application Information

  • Each prospective student must complete only one online application. On the online application, the University of Pretoria offers a first and second choice in terms of what you wish to study. All applicants should fill in both a first and second choice on the online application.
  • Once your online application has been processed, you will receive a student number (EMPLID).
  • Receiving a student number (EMPLID) does NOT imply that you have been accepted by the University of Pretoria yet. Admission is a separate process that your application undergoes after being evaluated by the relevant faculty.
  • It is in your best interest to complete your online application. The University of Pretoria does not make use of representatives, agents or agencies during the application process. If you choose to make use of representatives, agents or agencies, you do so at your own risk. It is of utmost importance that you provide your email and postal addresses to enable the University of Pretoria to communicate with you directly.
  • For the application for Distance Education admission (Faculty of Education) please visit the “Distance Education ” web page before you apply. Different rules are applicable.
  • It is important to note that should you wish to study the selection programmes BSc(Arch)(Architecture) or BSc(Int)(Interior Architecture), you must indicate them as your first choice on your application, or you will not be considered for these programmes. It is also recommended to indicate the other selection programmes as your first choice on the online application.

How to Apply Online to the University of Pretoria

  1. Visit the UP online application portal.
  2. click on ‘applications’
  3. click on ‘apply now’ on the dropdown menu
  4. Click on ‘I want to’ and select ‘Start new application’
  5. Fill in the required information
  6. Click back to the ‘I want to’ drop-down list
  7. Select ‘log in to continue’
  8. Fill in your login details
  9. Confirm your email address and change your password
  10. Fill in the required information
  11. Submit the following documents in PDF form
    • copy of your ID or passport
    • grade 11 report or your final score certificate
    • proof of payment of application fee (R300)
  12. Click on the ‘I have completed the application …’ button
  13. Click on ‘return’

and you have completed your application to the University of Pretoria. The next thing to do is to exercise patience for the admission management to completely assess your form and determine if you will be granted admission.

How to Check the Status of Your Application

Before tracking your UP application, you have to wait for 4-6 weeks after the applications have ended. During this period, you need to check your email every day to know if the school has sent a mail. If you have been doing this and still no mail, follow these procedures to check your application status

  1. Go to the up.ac.za
  2. Click on ‘Study’ in the top menu and then ‘Apply’
  3. Click on ‘Application status’
  4. Click on the link they direct you to
  5. Enter your login details
  6. You will then be able to view your UP application status
