The admission management of the University of Witwatersrand will soon start accepting applications for the 2025 session. If you aspire to be a part of this institution, you will need to know the school’s admission requirements, which I’ve highlighted in this article.
Wits offers various courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, diplomas, and a range of short courses. These courses can be done online or part-time to help accommodate the individual student’s circumstances.
Each faculty offered by Wits University has its requirements students/applicants should adhere to. This is because certain courses require different subjects and personal skills. Still, the ones below are the general entry requirements.
Minimum Entry Requirements at The University of Witwatersrand
- English must be taken as a Home Language or 1st Additional Language.
- Mathematics is compulsory for all numerate programmes in Engineering and the Built Environment, Commerce, Law and Management, and Science.
- Math literacy is accepted for some degrees.
- Wits do not distinguish between designated vs non-designated subjects when calculating the admission point score (APS)
- The APS calculation is based on the best seven subjects, including Life Orientation
NB: Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance, as final selection is made subject to the availability of places, academic results and other entry requirements where applicable. For more information about the specific requirements of each of the faculties, visit the Wits school website.
