The University of Witwatersrand (WITS) will soon start accepting applications for admission into the 2025 academic year, so if you are a high school leaver who is interested in studying at Wits University in 2025, now is your chance to apply.
The University of Witwatersrand is a higher institution located in Johannesburg, South Africa. Wits has five faculties encompassing the Sciences, Commerce, Law, Management, Engineering, Health Sciences, and Humanities with 33 schools offering over 3000 courses. These programs are designed to prepare students for successful careers in a rapidly changing global economy.
Wits Application Opening and Closing dates
The University of Witwatersrand will officially open its applications for the 2025 academic session on 15 March 2024 and will close on 30 June 2024 or 30 September 2024, depending on what course you are applying for. Make sure you apply on time when it opens as the school does not tolerate late applications.
Required Documents for the Wits Application 2025
To save your money and time make sure you have soft copies of the following documents ready before beginning your application:
- Certified copy of your ID or passport for international students
- Certified copy of your latest school results or academic transcript (if you have already completed a tertiary qualification)
- Current Matriculants: Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).
- Already Matriculated: Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.
- Other Tertiary Institutions: Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar.
- Proof of payment of the application fee (if applicable)
- Additional documents as specified by the program you are applying for (e.g., portfolio, audition, or motivation letter)
- Current Matriculants: Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).
- Already Matriculated: Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.

- Use only your Person Number or T Number as a reference
How to pay
Log into the self-service portal and click the Campus Finances tile. Select Make a Payment>Application fee. Alternatively, you can deposit the exact amount into the University’s application fee account:
- Standard Bank, Wits University Application Fees. Account Number 200 346 385, Branch code 004 805. CI Number 074A. (International payment swift code: SBZAZAJJ). Use only your person/student number as a reference.
- Pay by cash or credit card at the Wits Fees Office, Ground Floor, Solomon Mahlangu House), Braamfontein Campus East, Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa. Use your person/student number as the reference.
- EFT – Use your Person/Student number as the reference.

- if you are a new applicant, create a temporary ID
- Fill in the correct details
- A password will be sent to your email address after registration
- Input the password in the password box
- Begin your application
- Upload the required documents
- Complete your application
Acknowledgement of Application
- Wits University will email you to confirm that we have received your application.
- The acknowledgement letter will contain a person number (which will become your student number), and a reference person for you to contact for any queries you may have.
- All records of correspondence from the University will be available on the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za
- Check the status of your application and click Manage Documents on the student self-service portal regularly.
- Keep your contact details up-to-date on self-service.
